The existing depot near Bournemouth Airport in Christchurch will close but all staff will retain their jobs and move to the new building near Sterte Avenue West in Poole, located between the A350 and the railway line. In fact, the company is creating new jobs in the area and is currently advertising for warehouse assistants and warehouse operatives.
The giant building, constructed over the last few months, covers nearly 11 acres and measures 10,331m2. Comprising of warehouse and office space, the building will be one of the largest in Poole.
An Amazon spokesperson said: “We regularly review our network to ensure we are delivering for our customers and are relocating our Bournemouth delivery station to a new site in Poole. There will be no changes to the service we provide to our customers in this area and all employees will be relocated and continue with their roles at the new delivery station.”
Permission for the warehouse was awarded by BCP Council subject to Amazon paying £349,000 to compensate for loss of habitat on the land, to be spent on one or more sites within the Poole Harbour catchment area.
