TGt Meets...Claudia from Yoga With Claudia

Meet our latest TGt Meets...Claudia from Yoga With Claudia. We talked all about what it's like owning your own business and what inspired Claudia to fulfil her career as a yoga teacher.

Where is home and why?

I moved to Dorset in 1977 when I was 7 years old, growing up in Southbourne. Eventually moving to Poole when I married in 2000 and now living in Broadstone. I love living in this part of the country because you have the best of everything, beautiful beaches, lovely walks, shops and entertainment.

What inspired you to set up your business here?

Before becoming a teacher, I attended many, many yoga classes, workshops and retreats, I loved the way it made me feel physically, emotionally and spiritually, and I wanted to pass this feeling on to other people. I wanted my classes to be accessible as well, absolutely no barriers with age or fitness. Giving back to the community was also important to me and I donate money from my classes to local, grass root charities and there are many amazing charities in Poole.

Describe your business in 3 words...

Welcoming, relaxing and uplifting.

What advice would you give anyone looking to do the same?

There is a need for Yoga, breathwork and meditation teachers/classes, it is especially important at this moment, with more and more people needing help with their mental health and wellness.

What do you think attracts business people to Poole?

Poole is undergoing transformation with many new and unique businesses/shops opening. Poole is a busy town all year round, so there is so many opportunities available for businesspeople.

How do you like to spend your time off?

Whenever I have a moment I love walking, by the sea, in Wareham Forest, around Upton House. In the Summer, I love taking the ferry across to Brownsea Island and spending the day. I also like going to music concerts and I have my first concert of 2022 at the Lighthouse in April. I bake cakes, a newfound passion cultivated through the Lockdowns!!

What's the most enjoyable part of your job?

I enjoy meeting people from all walks of life and it’s a privilege to be able to share my Yoga classes with them and it gives me pleasure when I can help them. I am looking forward to Spring/Summer and having opportunities to offer more classes outdoors.

And the most challenging part of your job/owning a business?

When I qualified as a Yoga teacher last year opportunities to teach in person were difficult because of lockdowns and covid rules. My yoga business is also part time as by day I am a self employed cleaner/home help.

Describe Poole in 3 words...

Historic, friendly and buzzing

What has been your biggest achievement to date?

Most definitely getting married and having my two children but also finding the courage to train as a Yoga Teacher and a year later be teaching classes. Yoga has allowed me to be brave and I am grateful for that.
