TBN Spotlight: Karen Clarkson

Karen Clarkson is a Marketing and Business Development Manager over at Parket Bullen LLP. We caught up with Karen to hear more about her role, how networking plays a role in her business life and more!

What is your job title and company?

Marketing and Business Development Manager at Parker Bullen LLP

How long have you been in this position?

I’ve worked in the role since March 2022 but I have been in legal marketing since 2012

What is it that you love about your job?

I find the world of marketing fascinating as it is ever changing and there is so much more to it than people realise. Working in a law firm brings such variety as we work with people from all walks of life providing legal support for them, their family, their business or property needs. My role goes further than marketing to our clients; I am also involved in our internal communications and employee engagement, working with our charity partners and much more.

I particularly love working at Parker Bullen LLP for many reasons, not just for the role itself, but for the people. There is a genuine culture built on trust and autonomy; we have all been employed because our colleagues believe we are the best people to do the job, and we are given the respect to evolve that role how we see fit. When employees are trusted, that filters through to the work we deliver for our clients and I never have any hesitations in referring a contact I meet out networking to a colleague.

What hobbies do you do in your free time?

I have many passions outside of the world of legal marketing! I am regularly out walking whether it’s a stroll around my neighbourhood or a 26 mile charity walk. I love travelling, especially when it incorporates other loves including food, wine and the theatre. I am also an avid National Trust member and most weekends will be off exploring a new location.

What does networking do for your business?

Networking is only one part of the “business development” side of my role but it brings great return for our business. Essentially I see it as making connections, having mutually beneficial conversations and being part of a community. All of this leads to meaningful, lasting business relationships built on trust, consistency and authenticity. Networking is an opportunity to learn, whether that is from presentations from thought leaders or from having best practice discussions with others around the table. While it does open up connections to new people, the only way to see the return is to put in the work outside of networking; the 1-2-1’s, connecting on LinkedIn, as well as adding value through introductions, events and presentations.
