Corfe Castle
The former royal fortress, Corfe Castle is just over ten miles around the harbour from Poole.
The dramatic fairy-tale ruins of this 1,000 year old castle stand on a natural hill guarding the principal route through the Purbeck Hills, offering spectacular views over Corfe Castle village and the idyllic Dorset countryside.
Corfe Castle is a tourist hot spot, attracting hundreds of thousands of visitors from all over Europe. There is plenty to see and do with ongoing family-friendly events and activities, walks around the ruins, and even wildlife spotting in the surrounding hills.
As well as the castle itself, the village offers a unique range of independent shops, pubs, restaurants, teahouses, hotels, self-catering holiday homes, bed and breakfast accommodation, and two free museums.

Getting There
- On foot, follow the Purbeck Way from Wareham or Swanage.
- The nearest train station linking to Dorset and Bournemouth/Poole is Wareham, after which you can cycle or take the Number 40 bus onwards to the castle.
- By car - A351 Wareham to Swanage Road.
Parking
National Trust parking on A351 opposite the castle mound on the left when approaching from Wareham. Alternative pay and display parking at Purbeck Park (turn left at the roundabout when approaching from Wareham), or West Street (max four hours).
Dogs are welcome if they are taken on short leads only.
