Let's Talk
Durdle Door
Durdle Door is one of Dorset's most photographed landmarks and an icon of the Jurassic Coast
This natural limestone arch is part of The Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site and is situated near Lulworth Cove in Dorset
Formed by the sea piercing the layers of Portland limestone 10,000 years ago, this Dorset landmark is probably one of the world's most famous sea arches.
Durdle Door is a must-see for any trip to the Dorset coast. From camping to rock-pooling, walking to coasteering, photography to nature walks, or to just enjoy the stunning views, there is something for everyone all year round but during the summer months, it does get very busy. It is privately owned by the Weld family who own Lulworth Estate, but it is also open to the public.
Durdle Door stands at the foot of a steep path followed by a set of 88+ wooden steps. It is accessible from above via a car park and the South West Coast Path, from which it is a 15-minute walk down to the beach (sensible footwear is advised). At the foot of this path is a pair of shingle beaches - Durdle Door to the West and Man o' War Cove to the East. It can be accessed by the South West Coast path, a short and beautiful walk from Lulworth Cove where there is ample parking. Alternatively, you can park at the Durdle Door Holiday Park car park, located on the cliff above Durdle Door Beach.
In the summer months, you can swim on the beach but take caution as the beach shelves steeply in places and there are no lifeguards. The beach is also dog friendly all year round
