The popular American burger chain already has two restaurants in the BCP area - the Castlepoint site opened last year to complement BH2’s existing restaurant. The new Poole restaurant can be found opposite Tower Park on Yarrow Road (the old Frankie & Benny’s site) and is the biggest in the area with seating for 106 diners, some of it outside.
There are multiple combinations and variations of burgers, hot dogs, milkshakes and fries on offer – 250,000 burger possibilities apparently - all made to order using fresh ingredients, including British beef. The fries are cooked in peanut oil, a healthy alternative to the usual oils, and you can even find out where the potatoes were sourced.
Milkshakes can be ordered with up to 10 free ‘mix-ins’, including REESE’S Peanut Butter Cups, Oreo Cookie Pieces and, bizarrely, bacon and pigs in blankets.
My husband and I sampled the twice-cooked ‘boardwalk-style’ fries – spicy and tasty – and flavoursome hot dog. While we ate, smiley staff came and chatted, clearly proud of their shiny new workplace.
Manager, Angie Velez, reported that there was a steady flow of customers as locals realised the site was open.
Five Guys Poole is open every day from 11am–10pm (11pm on Fridays and Saturdays) and online ordering should be available from next week.
