REVIEW: New Winter Menu at The Britannia

Recently, we were invited down to The Britannia in Parkstone, to check out the new additions to their winter menu.

From starters to desserts, they have added a selection of new seasonal dishes that are the perfect winter warmer dishes for this time of year. The Britannia is one of our favourite date night spots, so we are always keen to try out their new dishes to see how they match up against our faves.

On arrival we were seated in a cosy little corner of the main restaurant, there was a lovely buzz for a Friday night. We started with a couple of their delicious gin cocktails as we browsed the menu. We chose the prawn and crayfish cocktail and the game terrine to start. My husband loves prawns and commented that the zesty sauce complimented the fish perfectly. The game terrine was served with a lovely rhubarb chutney, an assortment of pickles and sourdough and it was so, so good!

For the main course, my husband opted for the pan-fried sea bass with a creamy curried saffron sauce, served with Fowey mussels and new potatoes. This dish not only looked seriously impressive, but it was delicious. I had to sneak a taste it looked so good. The sauce added a unique twist with its velvety texture and aromatic curry notes. I will definitely be ordering this next time.

I chose the slow-cooked duck leg, this dish was incredible. The duck was accompanied by an incredible blackberry sauce that really elevated the savory richness of the meat. It came served with dauphinoise potato, and together this dish was a 10/10. Highly recommend!

We finished our meal on a sweet note (as every meal should be), we couldn’t pick so decided to share the rhubarb and almond tart and the black cherry and dark chocolate mousse. They were both lovely, but rhubarb won the battle of desserts, I do love anything rhubarb though. It was the perfect balance of sweet and sour and a lovely dish to finish the meal.

Overall, we had an amazing date night at The Britannia, we left with full bellies and smiles on our faces. The attentive staff and inviting atmosphere added to the overall enjoyment of the evening. We were so impressed with the new additions to the menu and cannot wait for our next visit.

Don’t forget this January, Britannia have a special offer of 50% off mains, available by simply signing up for their email newsletter. So, there has never been a better time to try out the new dishes.
