Penn Hill's Iconic Pub, Penn Central, Undergoes Exciting Transformation and Reopens as 'Bank by Nicholas James

Early December - Penn Hill's beloved establishment, Penn Central, which closed its doors at the beginning of last year, is set to make a triumphant return with a fresh new identity and a grand reopening as 'Bank by Nicholas James.' This exciting transformation comes after Heineken-owned Star Pubs & Bars, the lessee of the site, recognised the need for a significant investment to restore the pub to its former glory.

Local pub, restaurant, and bar operator, Nick Warner, has taken the reins as the new licensee, breathing life back into Penn Central after it remained closed for 18 long months. The restoration project, which commenced this week, will revamp both the interior and exterior of the venue, preserving its cherished traditional character while infusing a touch of opulence.

The interior will feature an array of seating options, including booth-style seating, high seats around pillar tables, and freestanding tables, creating a more inviting and versatile space. The outdoor area will benefit from bifold doors that open into a garden with a pergola, offering patrons an enchanting indoor-outdoor atmosphere.

Nick Warner, the visionary behind 'Bank by Nicholas James,' expressed his excitement, stating, "Bank by Nicholas James is in a fantastic high-profile location in the heart of Penn Hill. It will be a great addition to Penn Hill when it opens, providing new reasons to visit and keeping it vibrant. It will also complement Nicholas James café and Bar in Ashley Cross, with a stronger emphasis on dining. The building and location are hugely appealing, offering the opportunity to create a unique family-friendly bar and restaurant in such a sought-after area. We are thrilled to be reopening in early December, just in time for the festive season, and we are already accepting Christmas bookings through our website, Instagram, and Facebook."

The revitalised pub will also introduce a new seasonal menu featuring classic and contemporary dishes sourced from local suppliers, including weekend brunch options. A state-of-the-art barista-style coffee machine will be installed, allowing the venue to open at 10 am for coffee, cakes, and pastries, followed by a lunch menu from 12 noon. Additionally, tea and cakes will be available in the afternoon, satisfying a wide range of tastes. The bar will offer a well-curated selection of spirits and cocktails, alongside the latest dispense technology to enhance the quality of draft beer and cider. The Smart Dispense System's cooling technology and line insulation from keg to tap will ensure that beer and cider are served at the perfect temperature.

Stephen McInerney, Star Pubs & Bars area manager, expressed his enthusiasm, saying, "We're delighted to be investing in Bank by Nicholas James to take it to the next level. Nick is a very experienced operator. The upgrade, together with good food and drinks delivered consistently, will make Bank by Nicholas James a fantastic top-quality bar and restaurant. I wish him and his team well and look forward to visiting once the refurbishment is finished."

The reopening of 'Bank by Nicholas James' also brings a boost to the local economy, with the creation of 20 new job opportunities, enhancing the community's well-being.

Stay tuned for more updates on 'Bank by Nicholas James' and its grand reopening, set to bring renewed vibrancy and a touch of sophistication to Penn Hill.
