REVIEW: Pizzeria Valona

We were recently invited down to Pizzeria Valona to explore their menu in a ongoing quest to find the perfect Pizzeria in Poole.

Pizzeria Valona is an authentic family owned Italian restaurant specialising in delicious wood-fired pizza’s and based in the heart of the gorgeous Old Town Poole.

We arrived in the early evening and we were quickly shown to a lovely, quiet spot; perfect for when you’re dining with children. The girls were offered colouring books and pencils which if you dine out with children you’ll know is an essential part to a successful meal out!

We browsed the menu, ordered our drinks and opted for starters of pizza garlic bread for the kids, meat balls, king prawn diavola and a meat board to share. It was a lot of food but how are you meant to choose when it all sounds so good! We were not disappointed the meatballs in particular they were absolutely bursting with flavour.

For mains we opted for the Calzone which was Ham, Artichokes & Mushrooms and Pizza Valona which was topped with Cherry Tomatoes, Rocket, Parma Ham, Shaved Parmesan and Buffalo Mozzerella. Both equally delicious and very generous portion sizes. I feel as though I did myself a bit of a disservice by ordering so many starters as I could only manage half of my pizza. Fortunately they had boxes to take away the remains which I can confirm were enjoyed for lunch the next day and still just as good!

For the children, whilst there’s no specific children’s menu they offer a smaller pizza which kids can choose up to three toppings for. My eldest (M) opted for the Margarita, (L) opted for a pepperoni and (B) just loves a lasagna so went for that which they kindly made in a smaller portion just for her!

All pizzas are cooked in the wood-fire oven which just gives them that authentic taste of Italy you can’t beat.

I thought we were all too full for dessert but as soon as the girls spotted a nutella pizza we had to share just to see if it was as amazing as it sounded. Spoiler - it was. I don’t know how it works but it just does.

We had a great trip to Pizzeria Valona, the service was fantastic and the food absolutely delicious. It’s a real hidden gem that you need to try for yourself. The menu caters for all, you can add extra toppings to create your perfect pizza and they also offer gluten free and vegan options so really inclusive to all.

We can’t wait to visit again soon!
