Sunday Lunch in Poole

REVIEW: Sunday Lunch at South Deep Café

Sundays are made for long beach walks and cosy roast dinners by the fire.

Luckily, here in Poole we can do it all. I headed down to South Deep Café, a cosy little restaurant tucked away in Parkstone Bay Marina.

Although people often mistake the restaurant for a summer only venue, it's safe to say the team at South Deep know how to handle the winter months. Last Sunday saw the launch of their first Sunday Roast of the season.

As soon as you step foot in the door, you are made to feel welcome. It’s not very often that you can feel immediately at ease, especially given the past few months, but the staff really do go above and beyond to ensure everyone in the room is treated like an old friend.

The space is small, but I would argue this adds to the cosy theme of the restaurant. Before settling down, I got a chance to catch up with the team of chefs behind the Sunday service. From butchers to bakers, the chefs work alongside local suppliers to source fresh seasonal ingredients which they use to create a wide range of dishes.

Before visiting South Deep, I didn’t understand the importance of locally sourced food. However, from the first bite I can now safely say I get it. The roast beef was cooked to perfection, my knife literally slid through the meat with no resistance. The meat had a sweet taste to it, which was perfectly paired with an array of fresh vegetables.

For me, the Yorkshire pudding is usually the best part of the Sunday roast, and the chefs didn’t disappoint in this area. In terms of drinks, I enjoyed a healthy glass of red wine alongside the meal, which went down perfectly.

The only downside to the whole experience was that I had no room left to squeeze in a pudding!

For me, it was reassuring to know that I have now found a Sunday roast spot that I can rely on, time and time again. Dubbed as Poole’s best kept secret, the little hideaway is certainly a strong contender for the best Sunday roast in Poole!
