REVIEW: Family-Friendly Dining at The Britannia Parkstone

What a wonderful surprise to be taken to lunch by my daughter and her family at The Britannia whilst visiting Poole this weekend.

We had my two granddaughters (aged 5 and 2) with us and as it was still the Easter Holidays they ate for free (1 child free for a paying adult), and the children's choice was excellent with the girls' choosing mozzarella sticks, cucumber, and carrots to start, followed by chicken and pesto pasta and a bacon cheeseburger. The team is obviously very experienced with impatient children and brought out their starters straight away which was fantastic!

The adults just had a few nibbles for starters including bread, olives, butter, and balsamic vinegar as we were saving ourselves for the mains, but the starter selections are extremely tempting and I will definitely go for escargot on my next visit as I rarely see them on the menu these days.

We chose from the a la carte menu which included vegetarian and vegan options clearly marked on the menu. The choices were very tempting and I ordered Plaice Meuniere with beurre noisette and capers with minted new potatoes. All I can say is WOW and I can truly say this was one of the most delicious servings of plaice I have ever experienced. The fish was so moist and full of flavour.

It is a dish I would order again and again and I wish we had a restaurant like this near me in Wiltshire. I shall certainly beg my daughter to take me back when we are next visiting them. Anyway, enough of my ravings about the plaice and on to the others at the party. My husband and daughter had the pan-fried stone bass with poached mussels, samphire, prawn potatoes with wilted spinach, and saffron and white wine sauce. Again it was a triumph and they both raved about the flavours.

My son-in-law had the Provencal lamb roulade with confit and herb stuffing, dauphinoise potatoes, minted pea salad and pea puree, and lamb jus. He said it was amazing and it is another dish on their menu I would love to try.

We skipped on desserts because the little ones were getting a bit fidgety but the selection looked extremely tempting.

The staff and service were outstanding. Prompt, efficient, and very friendly. I cannot wait to return and I am literally salivating as I write this review I highly recommend The Britannia for an amazing family dining experience.
