The Britannia's Brit Weekender

The Britannia, Ashley Cross to host ‘jam-packed’ ‘Brit Weekender’ to raise money for children’s hospice Julia’s House.

A dog-friendly pub in Ashley Cross is hosting a May bank holiday garden party featuring a dog show, pottery painting, Morris Dancers and a cyclothon in aid of Dorset charity Julia’s House.

The Britannia in Ashley Cross, Poole, is hosting a three-day bank holiday extravaganza and garden party on 4th-6th May coined ‘The Brit Weekender’ featuring an array of family, and dog, friendly events including a static bike ‘cyclothon’ to raise money for Julia’s House, Dorset and Wiltshire based children’s hospices.

Each day from 10am-6pm guests will cycle 100km on a static bike, the equivalent of Highcliffe to Lyme Regis. Those who cycle the furthest will be in with a chance to win a Sunday roast for two at the pub, with donations for participation going towards Julia’s House.

Not only this, but the pub will host an array of lively activities including a dog show, pottery painting, a bank holiday quiz, traditional Morris dancing and more tasty giveaways to be expected as well as live music and a DJ across all three days in their gorgeous garden area with an outdoor bar and capacity of over 100.

The pub is a Heartwood Inn, which last month won ‘Best Managed Pub Group (up to 50 sites)’ and ‘Best Operations Team’ at the prestigious Publican Awards 2024.

Alongside the weekend of events, guests will also be able to enjoy Heartwood’s seasonally-changing menu which is developed in line with the group’s ethos for delivering sustainable, fresh food, having attained the top 3 star rating from The Sustainable Restaurant Association.

The Britannia also has a whole host of weekly reasons to visit, from Happy Hour every weekday from 5-7pm, Lunch Club - a weekday set menu served Monday to Friday from 12-5pm when diners can enjoy 2 courses for £18.50 or 3 courses for £23.50. As well as Wednesday Steak Nights, Sunday roasts with bottomless trimmings, live music and a pub quiz every Sunday which also raises money for charity, Julia’s House.

General Manager at The Britannia, Saffron Moulade, said: ‘This is going to be such a jam-packed exciting weekend of events and we really cannot wait. Not only do we love being the centre of the community, we also feel so strongly about supporting Julia’s House, a charity that we’ve been behind for a while now. The work they do is so important and so much of their fundraising comes from the public. We would love to see as many people as possible join us for the Brit Weekender, so gather the whole family - including the dog - and join us!’

Community fundraiser at Julia’s House Amanda Gillett, said: ‘Not everyone is aware, but Julia’s House receives only 8% government funding. This means 92% of our funding comes from the local community, so without the support of businesses like The Britannia, we wouldn’t be able to keep providing this vital care to the growing number of families in Dorset and Wiltshire who depend on us.’
