REVIEW: Lunch at The Pickled Berry Poole Old Town

Poole has seen a plethora of fantastic new independent eateries open up this year and it is a real foodie hub with a diverse mix.

Brand new to the scene is The Pickled Berry, run by husband and wife team Ed and Kirstie. Both have years of experience of catering and hospitality in the Poole area.

I popped in last week for a working lunch and it was such a fantastic experience, I had to share it with you.

Location and Ambience

Located in the charming Poole Old Town, The Pickled Berry has already made a fantastic contribution to this bustling street of independent shops, restaurants and cafes just off Poole Quay. There are 2 large car parks nearby and it's right by the taxi rank and bus stop so if you'd prefer to have a few drinks there are plenty of options.

You can't help but notice it with its charming outdoor seating and welcoming decor.

The interior combines exposed brick walls with wooden furnishings, creating a cozy and welcoming atmosphere.

The lighting is warm, and the addition of potted plants gives a fresh, lively feel. There’s a mix of seating options, including comfortable booths and tables suitable for both intimate and group dining.

Service and Food

The service at The Pickled Berry was exceptional. The staff were friendly and attentive without being overbearing.

The fact that I was visiting on a working lunch was clearly acknowledged and I was immediately served a drink and the daily specials were shared with me, along with the regular lunch menu which included; Lobster Bisque, Smoked Haddock and Salmon Fishcake, Minute Steak, Chicken and Tarragon Pie, Mussels, Creamy Spinach Pappardelle.

I was offered insightful recommendations and after much deliberation I opted for the Pan Fried Seabass Fillet with Sauteed Greens, Dill and Butter Sauce and I treated myself to the naughty but delicious Truffle and Parmesan Fries. The portion and quality of the greens was extremely generous. These change daily, but I had Samphire, Green Beans, Pak Choi and Asparagus - these paired with the Sea Bass and dill sauce were an absolutely divine combination.

The Pickled Berry boasts a diverse menu with a focus on fresh, locally sourced ingredients (the coffee is from Wimborne Coffee, Baked Goods are from Oxfords Bakery (based in Sturminster Newton), Mineral Water from New Forest Water and Fresh Fish and Seafood from Southbourne Fish).

Drinks

The Pickled Berry has an impressive selection of beverages, including local craft beers, a well-curated wine list, and creative cocktails.

I'm looking forward to returning for a date night with my husband and leaving the car at home!

Overall Rating

The atmosphere was so warm and inviting, it's really a special place you could enjoy a whole evening of great food drink and conversation.

I couldn't fault it and would rate it 10/10.

It’s a great spot for a casual lunch, a romantic dinner, or a gathering with friends and family. I highly recommend and I'm very excited to see what the future holds for Kirstie, Ed and the team and it's a fantastic addition to Poole Town Centre.
