Website 01202 888 565I have heard fantastic reviews of The Wimborne Pig and it sounded like the perfect restaurant for our child free date night.
The Wimborne Pig is Nestled in the heart of the quaint town of Wimborne Minster and it's a charming and intimate restaurant that suited us perfectly.
Ambiance and Setting
From the moment we arrived, The Wimborne Pig exuded a warm and cosy atmosphere. We loved the rustic-chic décor which Kym the owner lovingly re-decorates to suit every season (I can't wait to visit again in the Autumn). With its exposed brick walls, soft lighting, and vintage accents, it really set the perfect mood for our romantic evening.
The tables were thoughtfully spaced, offering a sense of privacy that allowed us to enjoy our meal and conversation undisturbed. The service was impeccable—attentive without being intrusive, making us feel genuinely welcomed and well cared for throughout the evening.
Do have a look at the garden when you are visiting, it's a real hidden gem (so much so we are dedicating a complete article to the garden!).
Food
We both wanted to order from the weekly set menu but for the sake of the review, I managed to persuade my husband to order from the A La Carte and thankfully he was delighted with 'his' choice when it arrived.
Starters: The first course on the set menu was Lightly spiced coconut, allotment summer squash and courgette soup and homemade bread. There was a slight Thai flavour but it was extremely delicate and simply enhanced the taste of the creamy vegetables, absolutely delicious. My husband had the Souffle topped with Chorizo, he said he will never be able to have a straightforward cheese souffle again with the contrast of the light souffle and crispy tomato and chorizo topping added a full new flavour and texture.
Main Course: I had the oven baked cod, rarebit, crushed new potatoes, spinach and warm tartare sauce from the weekly special. This was beautifully seasoned with dill which really brought out the glorious combination of the fish and rarebit. The potatoes had a perfect bite and a sweet taste - you can tell they were fresh from the restaurant's very own allotment.
My husband went for a dish he observed is rarely found on menus these days; the Pork Belly. It was beautifully served and really looked like a show stopper and tasted as good as it looked.
Dessert: My final course from the weekly set menu was a perfectly creamy and light Lemon panna-cotta, berry compote, orange crumb and summer fruit. I was already rather full from the first two courses and this was perfectly sweet without sitting too heavy and the combination of the fresh summer fruits, creamy panna-cotta and crunch of the orange crumb made for a delightful finale.
Overall Experience
Our dinner at The Wimborne Pig was exceptional and just what we needed to have some special time together before he leaves. The staff were so warm, welcoming and their passion for food and the restaurant was evident.
The quality of the food makes it one of the top contenders for the best restaurant in Dorset and the fresh fruit and vegetables from their own allotment makes it very unique.
The menus are created with the season in mind and each course is thoughtfully prepared, beautifully presented, and bursting with flavour. The ambiance, service, and attention to detail are exceptional. Whether you’re celebrating a special occasion or simply looking for an intimate night out, The Wimborne Pig in Dorset should be on your radar.
We can't wait to return again soon.
Thank you to all the team at The Wimborne Pig for looking after us.
