REVIEW: A Fun Filled Morning on Bournemouth Pier A Must-Visit for BH Residents!
If you’re a Bournemouth local and haven’t yet taken full advantage of Bournemouth Pier, you’re seriously missing out! Not only does this iconic spot boast stunning sea views and an unbeatable atmosphere, but thanks to Pier Perks, BH residents can unlock fantastic discounts on all the top attractions for just £1 a year.
Whether you're looking for adventure, delicious food, or a fun day out with the family, the pier has something for everyone.
We kicked off our day at RockReef, the pier’s very own indoor adventure center. After a quick safety briefing, we jumped straight into the Clip ‘n’ Climb area. With multiple climbing walls designed for all skill levels, it was an exciting challenge from start to finish. Elsie, aged 4, was visiting for the first time and absolutely loved it—especially the Stairway to Heaven, a series of ascending pillars that test your balance and bravery.
Our Ultimate Adventure Tickets gave us two hours of access to the Clip ‘n’ Climb, Pier Caves, Highline, and Vertical Slide, offering incredible value for money. Just a heads-up—while RockReef is suitable for ages 4+, there are height restrictions for the Leap of Faith and Highline, and under-16s must be accompanied by an adult.
After working up a sweat on the climbing walls, we ventured into the Pier Caves. With three different routes to choose from, we stuck to the easy one this time. Be warned—if you’re claustrophobic, this may not be for you, as the caves can be pretty snug! That said, they’re short enough that even the most hesitant explorer can push through, and the kids had an absolute blast zooming through the tunnels.
One thing we chickened out on? The Vertical Slide. But if you’re a true thrill-seeker, this adrenaline-pumping attraction is a must-try! Watching others take on the challenge was almost as fun as participating—almost. Maybe next time!
After all that adventure, we were more than ready for a delicious meal, so we headed into Key West Restaurant. With its seafront location and a fantastic menu featuring everything from burgers to homemade pizzas, there’s something for everyone. I went for the spicy king prawn tagliatelle, which was packed with flavour, while the kids polished off their fish fingers and goujons in minutes—a sure sign of approval. And of course, no trip to the pier is complete without ice cream and brownies to round off the meal!
