REVIEW: New for 2024/2025: The Magical Enchanted Night Garden at Minterne House

Last night, we had the pleasure of stepping into a world of whimsical wonder at the launch of the Enchanted Night Garden at Minterne House.

We have visited the Dragons and Fairy Trail at Minterne House in the Summer which is absolutely wonderful, and it's lovely to see the characters have been utilised for the Christmas garden to make an extraordinary fusion of nature, lights, and storytelling, creating an unforgettable evening for all ages.

Setting the Scene

Nestled in the stunning grounds of Minterne House, the event transforms the magnificent house and already picturesque gardens into a magical landscape after dark.

We loved that it feels more rustic than many of the other local trails and that you are experiencing nature as well as the wonderment of the lights.

There's so many varied features from twinkling lights weaved through the trees, light shows and lit up characters dotted through the winding trail, offering surprises at every turn.

Highlights of the Experience:

  • Magical Illuminations: The combination of creative lighting and natural elements is breathtaking. Trees shimmer with fairy lights, pathways glow softly, and the occasional burst of colour captivates the eye.
  • Secret House: See if you can spot the little house nested just off the main path which has been turned into a cosy magical grotto
  • Lady Eleanor's Bridge: This historic bridge is a stunning feature any time of the year, but to see it lit up with the lights reflecting on the water, is particularly special
  • Trail length: The trail is roughly a mile so perfect for all ages and walking abilities and not to far for young children
  • The Magnificent Minterne House Lit Up: The photos just don't do it justice, it's really breathtaking to see the house shining green and red overlooking the lit up stars and Christmas trees on the lawn
  • Seasonal Treats: At the end of the trail, the cafe on the terrace outside the house is open for hot drinks and festive snacks, perfect for warming up after your adventure.

Plan Your Visit

It was raining while we were there but it was very sheltered in the wooded gardens. I would recommend you wear wellies or walking boots and families with young children are better off with a carrier than a buggy unless you have an off road buggy.

I'd plan to spend 90 minutes to 2 hours there so you can take your time and enjoy the cafe on the terrace afterwards.

The main car park is opposite Minterne House, you can't drive into the estate but the car park is only a short 2 minute walk from the House and the start of the trail.

The trail will be running from 6th December until the 4th January. Pre booking through the website is essential.

Final Thoughts

The Enchanted Night Garden at Minterne House is a must-visit for anyone seeking a little magic this season. Whatever your age it’s a place to escape reality and lose yourself in a fairy-tale world.
