There have been lifeboats at Poole since 1865, the first lifeboat The Manley Wood funded by a woman who wished to remain anonymous. Gathering at pub, the Antelope in Poole High Street, the crew would travel by horse and carriage to the lifeboat station to launch the boat. The lifeboat station was moved to the Quay where the second lifeboat was funded by Boys Own Magazine Blue Peter lifeboats.
There has been a lifeboat at Mudeford since 1963 and RNLI Lifeguards on the beaches of our bay since 2001.
With 200 years of experience behind them, RNLI are celebrating their anniversary with a Gala Ball and invite you to join them! Arrive at Hilton Hotel, Bournemouth, from 6:45pm on 10th May to join this delightful and entertaining soiree and have a night to remember.
The evening begins with a harp player setting the ambiance whilst reception drinks are enjoyed, before a three-course dinner – with exquisite vegan and gluten free options with Magic by Alfie entertaining you close up at your tables. Next, attendees will have the chance to win the "catch it, cook it, eat it" fishing trip for six with Alex Aitken, Chef Patron at the Jetty Restaurant in Mudeford and other wonderful prizes at the auction. There will be a silent auction and raffle running all evening before the party closes with dancing to the Swing Unlimited Big Band, the best of their genre along the south coast.
Mudeford Fundraising Crew, Christchurch & Bournemouth, and Poole & District Fundraising branches have come together to organise a night full of charming activities. Don’t miss the chance to support this historic charity at their 200th Anniversary Gala Ball and to show your appreciation of the current crews and lifeguards. CLICK HERE to secure your place!
