Minterne House Dorchester

This Summer's Must-Visit: A Magical Journey on the Dragon and Fairy Trail at Minterne House just outside of Dorchester.

In typical fashion, the UKs weather has taken a downturn just at the start of the Summer hols but this really is an activity you can enjoy in all weathers!

If you're planning your Summer adventures and looking for a unique and enchanting experience, look no further than the Dragon and Fairy Trail at Minterne House! Nestled in the heart of Dorset, this hidden gem offers a magical journey that will captivate both young and old alike.

What is the Enchanted Garden?

Step into the Enchanted Garden at Minterne House and prepare to be transported to a world of wonder. This whimsical landscape is filled with hidden treasures, secret pathways, and stunning natural beauty. It's a place where imagination knows no bounds and where the magic of childhood comes alive.

This immersive experience allows children to step into a world of fantasy and adventure as they follow the trail through the enchanting garden. From discovering hidden fairies in the trees and grounds to spotting mystical dragons, every step is filled with excitement and wonder.

Exploring the Dragon and Fairy Trail

When you arrive at the House you are greeted by a super friendly team who give you your maps and activity pack with crayons and show you where to start the trail. You then embark on your journey along the Dragon and Fairy Trail, be prepared to be amazed at every turn. The trail winds its way through the enchanting garden, leading you on a magical adventure. Follow the clues and discover hidden fairies nestled amongst the trees and bushes. Keep an eye out for the mischievous dragons that have made Minterne House their home. And don't forget to make a wish at the magical wishing tree (the ribbon is provided with the activity pack).

A full morning or afternoon of fun

While the Dragon and Fairy Trail is the main attraction for families this Summer, the grounds themselves are just breathtaking; with mini waterfalls and the most gorgeous gardens with exotic plants and flowers (the hydrangeas were still in full bloom when we visited).

While there isn't a playground, there is a big patch of lawn and trees just outside the cafe and the kids were in their element hiding in the trees and rolling down the grass.

Tips for visiting the Dragon and Fairy Trail with kids

To make the most of your visit to the Dragon and Fairy Trail, here are a few tips to keep in mind. First, make sure to wear comfortable footwear, as the trail can be uneven in some areas. We didn't need wellies even though it had been raining as it's a good trail and there were no muddy puddles. Second, bring along some snacks and water, as there are no food outlets along the trail (but there is a fantastic cafe by the House which is at the start and finish). And finally, don't forget your camera! There will be plenty of photo opportunities along the way, so you'll want to capture those magical moments.

To plan your visit to Minterne House and the Dragon and Fairy Trail, head to their website for more information.

You'll find details on opening times, ticket prices, and how to get there. The trail is open rain or shine. So come and escape to our Enchanted Garden this summer and embark on a magical journey that will leave you and your family spellbound.
