What to expect at Farmer Palmer's Farm Park
With wellies and raincoats on, I expected that we'd just have to brave the weather but as soon as you head in to the park there is a huge choice of indoor and undercover activities.
As it was only drizzling when we arrived we headed straight to the outdoor animal pens where we saw Alpaca's, Goats, Pigs, Sheep and Rhea which the kids were really taken with.
We then headed in to the 'Big Barn' where we saw baby goats/kids hopping away and new borns snuggled up to their Mum's. All the animals looked so happy and content.
The rest of the day was spent mixing up visits to the 5 x play areas (which include an indoor play barn with a bouncy castle and ride-alongs, 'Straw Mountain' Barn with straw bales and slides, and Little Farmers Fun Barn, soft play), and then the absolute highlight - the Tractor Ride. My 6 year old squealed with delight on the bumpy ride "this is the best day of my life'.
My husband and I loved sharing this quality time with them and we even had some time to relax as the cafe is fantastic and right by the soft play! We had a delicious hot lunch in peace with a view of the soft play so we could keep an eye on the kids.
Even though we were there for most of the day, we still managed to miss the daily shows and demonstrations which ranges from milking a cow or grooming a pony and the woodland walk and dinosaur trail which we spotted from the tractor ride.
And we can't wait to try the new Sand and Water Play area in the Summer.
Tips for visiting Farmer Palmer's during the School Holidays
To make the most of your visit to Farmer Palmers during half term, it's important to plan ahead. Firstly, check the weather forecast and dress accordingly. Bring a change of clothes and waterproof jackets and wellies in case of rain. It's also a good idea to arrive early to avoid crowds and make the most of the day (we arrived at 9.30am and had it to ourselves for at least 30 minutes). Don't forget to pack snacks and drinks as it will be a long and busy day but there are lots of delicious hot and cold snacks and meals in the cafe. Lastly, be sure to check the daily timetable of events when you arrive so you don't miss any of the activities.
So, despite my previous misconception, Farmer Palmers is definitely a Rainy Day Activity so don't let a bad weather forecast put you off. It's a fantastic way to spend quality time with the family and create lasting memories.
