We recommend
Shop Local Week
Support local small businesses in your community by visiting your local high street as part of 'Shop Local Week' from 10-16 August.
Pop out to your favourite bakery, butchers or florist - or any local shop and see how they're safely welcoming customers back through the door.
Virtual Bournemouth Air Festival 2020
A ‘take off’ of a different kind has been planned for what would have been the much anticipated 13th Bournemouth Air Festival.
Broadcasting online and via social media platforms, the Virtual Air Festival 2020 will be live from 21-23 August from Centre VR in Bournemouth to celebrate all that is loved about the festival…on land, at sea and in the air.
Camping on the beach
Camping on our beaches is not allowed. We have never before experienced issues on our beaches in the scale that we’ve seen this summer. We have a team of security staff who patrol the seafront throughout the night, and beach rangers working from the early hours until late into the evening. Last weekend, around 100 pitched tents were moved on and a number of eviction notices issued. Our car parking teams have instigated early morning patrols and issue fixed penalty notices where vehicles have not paid the required fees in our car parks.
We have reviewed our approach and agreed that these additional activities will continue throughout the summer as necessary. In addition, we continue to liaise with the police and welcome any additional assistance they are able to provide. We will also be advising beach goers of the risks associated with overnight camping on our beaches, and installing additional signage in time for the coming weekend.
Two experimental traffic measures introduced
We're introducing two important experimental traffic measures to Whitecliff Road and Darby’s Lane in Poole to provide a safer, more attractive environment for walking and cycling.
Funded by the government’s emergency active travel fund, these measures are part of a wider effort to support the safe reopening of the local economy, with additional government funding dependent upon their swift and effective introduction.
Poole Quay taxis
It's great to see people enjoying the new layout at Poole Quay as a result of our emergency active travel measures.
If you need to get a taxi home from Poole Quay, remember there is now a new pick-up point outside the Soho Bar in Old Orchard - please get your taxis from there - and don't forget to social distance.
East Overcliff Drive road layout to remain unchanged
On 5 August, council officers met with hoteliers in the town to discuss draft proposals to implement a COVID-19 related experimental traffic regulation order at East Overcliff Drive.
Following the pre-consultation with the hotel representatives, a decision has been made to not progress with the scheme.
Better Health campaign
Extra weight puts extra pressure on your body, which makes it harder to fight against diseases like cancer, heart disease and now, COVID-19.
Losing weight can help reduce your risk and the NHS Better Health campaign has a range of tools and support to help, so you can find out what works for you.
