Bournemouth & Poole College set to host Come to College events to give students extra support following exam results

Teenagers have been under more pressure than ever this year with GCSE and A Level exams coming back properly for the first time since 2019. With the pandemic causing huge disruption to young people’s learning, as well as impacting mental health and social development, Bournemouth & Poole College has recognised that extra support is needed to help the first post-pandemic school leavers and is set to host Come to College days for students getting their exam results in August.

Taking place on Thursday 25 August, from 10am to 4pm, and Friday 26 August, from 10am to 1pm, both Bournemouth & Poole campuses will be open for visitors to drop in with any questions they may have following exam results. Staff from all the subject areas will be available to provide details on courses and discuss which options available. The Careers Advice and Student Support Teams will be on both sites to help visitors determine next steps and discuss the support the college can provide. It also won’t be too late for teenagers to apply for courses starting this September, with the enrolment team on hand to help to guide them through their application.

Matt Butcher, Commercial Director at Bournemouth & Poole College, says: “We know that some students may receive results that weren’t quite what they were expecting. Whether a student has exceeded their targets or not quite got the grades they were hoping for, our Come to College days offer students the opportunity to talk to our teams. We have our curriculum staff on hand to help make next steps as easy as possible.”

“When considering next steps an important piece of advice is to consider not just the place of study, but the course and where it could lead. Whether there’s an aspiration to get into a top university, achieve the career of dreams or progress on to an apprenticeship, our courses are constantly reviewed and updated to ensure that we help students to achieve their ambition. Many of our courses are developed with some of the biggest employers in the area, meaning students leave us with exactly the skills that employers are looking for.”

The Come to College days will take place at the college’s sites on North Road, Poole, and Lansdowne, Bournemouth. There is no need to register for the Come to College days – simply turn up on the day

and talk to the tutors. Alternatively, to visit the college ahead of these dates please email welcometeam@bpc.ac.uk to get booked in for a tour.
