REVIEW: Cut & Colour at Gloss Hair Lounge

With the promise of Spring finally here, I felt the need to ditch the Hollywood/Balyage colour that served me so well through the lockdowns and newborn baby stage!

With more time to be able to get my roots done and with spring around the corner my blonde ambitions are back, and I know no one better to bring my frizzy locks up to date than Michael at Gloss Hair Lounge!

Introduction to Spring Hair and the Need for a New Cut and Colour

I was worried that Michael wouldn't share my enthusiasm for having my locks chopped off and reverting back to foils as I have a LOT of hair so foils take a very long time but as the professional he is, he listened to my ideas and advised accordingly.

So I can maintain a natural look as possible without harsh roots, Michael recommended a full head of baby lights with a bleach lightener followed by toner and treatment with Olaplex and their new luxury hair brand Carlio Oliver which is a new sustainable brand hot on the scene. I love that Michael and the team are always looking for new sustainable brands to support and work with.

Michael didn't hang around and after agreeing on a bob he got his scissors out and chopped about 3 inches before he made a start on the mammoth task of applying the foils. I've never had my hair cut before the colour, but this makes so much sense - saving time and not wasting product on hair that's only going to be cut.

I was really sad to leave my old hairdresser when we moved here as she had been colouring my hair since I was in my 20s but I really didn't need to worry - Michael patiently applied the baby lights and got super close to the root (I'm writing this two weeks on and there’s still no sign of roots).

Because of the baby lights being weaved with my natural hair, the lighter look I was hoping for has been achieved but without looking too harsh and difficult to maintain. The toner has cooled the colour down from the dark golden blonde I previously had.

While chatting with Michael, I discovered that he is currently taking part in the Purple Hearts Masters. This is a 12-month course and the first of its kind in the industry. I didn't really think that Michael could possibly get any more qualified, but this Master's qualification is essentially going back to basics to look at everything as it should be done and revisiting fundamentals to make sure every haircut is on point.

It's the highest qualification you can get in the industry and Michael will be able to go on to teach this after he qualifies so I'd struggle to find anyone as skilled and qualified in the area as Michael.

So, if like me, you're looking for a new look this Spring, you’d be pushed to find anyone as qualified.

You can see some more examples of their work on their Facebook and Instagram pages and on their website.
