REVIEW: A Fresh New Cut & Colour at Francesco Hair Lilliput

Since going from Balyage/Hollywood back to foils, I've grown really tired of having harsh roots all the time. I thought that was just something you have to put up with going back to a full head of foils, but after having a consultation with the lovely Caroline at Francesco Hair Lilliput, it was clear I could still achieve a nice light blonde colour but without quickly having roots on display!

Caroline is also a curly girl and understood my request to keep my style but to thin-out the bushy look. She explained she had a technique to achieve just that (which was very impressive to witness - more of that later on in the review), so I booked an appointment for a cut and colour without hesitation!

I normally have my hair done whilst working from my laptop but I decided to have some pamper time and booked the appointment for a Saturday morning (and my husband took the kids out for the day so I could really relax without rushing back!)

Francesco Hair in Lilliput has recently opened it's doors, but it's part of a well established and reputable group with salons across Dorset and Hampshire.

It's conveniently located with plentiful free parking nearby and the salon itself is beautifully decorated and the staff are warm and welcoming.

Caroline greeted me and double checked that I was still happy with the plan from our original consultation. I was so impressed with how Caroline took the time to listen to my hair dilemma and offer expert advice, not just on the colour and cut but she gave me so many new styling tips too so I can easily maintain the 'beachy hair' look myself.

I was then offered a drink (including Prosecco!) but as tempting as it was, with it being 9am I opted for a Cappuccino. Caroline then got to work on the foils. She used a technique I've never experienced before; on the top panel and front, she criss-crossed the foils from side to side to make sure no harsh roots are noticeable when the parting is moved around. This is perfect for me as I'm always fiddling with my hair and messing up my parting.

Caroline used a Lightener with a High Lift Tint and I had a full head of foils; I had prepared myself to be in the salon all day as I have so much hair, but Caroline was super quick but very thorough and packed lots of foils in really close to the root.

Once the colour was ready, she applied a 10 minute post colour treatment which closes down the hair cuticles and then applied a Blondeplex toner for 5 minutes.

After a very relaxing shampoo and condition it was time to work on the cut.

When I got back to my chair a wonderful little tray of olives and SanPellegrino was waiting for me - such a fantastic treat which was very well received on my pamper day!

Caroline was full of new tricks and her thinning out the 'bushyness' of my hair was brilliant! She was twisting sections, then pushed the hair upwards to get the natural movement and then thinned out by rubbing the scissors up and down the sections! She demonstrated the difference after one side was complete and it has such a great effect and very much needed on my crazy hair.

Then on to styling, after a smooth blow-dry Caroline used a medium barreled tong on my hair and talked me through how to achieve the look myself so I shall be purchasing a set of tongs imminently.

Not only did Caroline give me lots of helpful advice but she gave me some sample products but didn't try selling any products at all to me, she was just super helpful, talented and friendly.

I had such a lovely morning there and I'm over the moon to have finally found a way to keep my hair blonde without having perma-roots! 

I have already booked for a maintenance appointment in 8 weeks!
