Local singer hits the right note for hospital charity

Charity single released for Poole Hospital Charity and children’s community services.

A local singer/songwriter has released a new single to support Poole Hospital and the children’s community service.

The service wanted to create a video to showcase how they have had to evolve to ensure that younger patients and their families continued to receive a great service during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The team visit children and their families in their homes, helping to manage sometimes complex conditions outside of hospital, which is often better for the children.

Josie Roberts, lead nurse for the service, says staff have had to be innovative and ingenious to ensure Covid-19 caused as little impact as possible to patients.

We are reliant on visiting our patients at home,” she explains, “but with Covid-19 this has been very difficult and we have all had to think and work differently.

“Our children and their families still depend on us, and so it’s been vital that we keep supporting them through this time.

“From wearing full PPE for the home visits that are possible, to using video conferencing to meet virtually, it has been fantastic to be able to keep in touch.

“Behind the scenes, we’ve had to create office space for ourselves as we are normally out on the road and ensure we maintain social distancing.

“We put this film together to help show how we’ve been able to continue to provide care and support, and to thank our children and their parents for their contribution too.”

The idea for a song to play as part of the video came from one of the service’s parents.

“We knew we wanted a song for the video, and we were just talking about the film with one of our children’s mum’s, and she said she might know someone who could help,” continues Josie.

“We got in touch with Krista and when she sent us the song we were blown away – we love it and it is perfect for our film.”

Krista said when she heard about the efforts the children’s service had been making to keep in touch with their younger patients, she was delighted to be able to help.

“I know people who have benefitted from the community service and know the incredible difference they make,” said Krista.

“When I heard they were looking for music for their film I was only too happy to help.

“It’s incredible that it is being released as a charity single to support not only the children’s community service, but all the other heroes at Poole Hospital who have absolutely gone above and beyond in the past few months.

“I hope as many people buy the song as possible to help raise as much money as possible for Poole Hospital Charity.”
