We recommend
Where is home and why?
Poole has always been a place our family has always come back to, with my girls being born in St Mary’s and its where my parents choose to settle. After living in many different places around the world, we have decided to make Poole our home.
What inspired you to set up your business here?
Whilst my children were growing up, I observed a great need for children’s mental health support. This was observed through a shared experience with other parents and families. With Poole being the town where my son is still in education, this was the best place to start my journey to help young people with their mental health.
Describe your business in 3 words…
Nurturing, compassionate, necessary
What advice would you give anyone looking to do the same?
There is a great need for more children’s mental health practitioners as the mental health pandemic continues and filters down to our children at an alarming rate. With our health system under increased strain, there is no better time than now to offer more services to our young people, the next generation.
What do you think attracts business people to Poole?
Poole is a thriving buzz of small businesses and entrepreneurs, and this continues to grow every day. There are people with new and exciting concepts and there is a market for them within the Poole community. As Poole is harbourside, our businesses are very seasonal, and they attract a lot of trade during these times.
How do you like to spend your time off?
We like to spend our time eating out in Old Town Poole or Parkstone, where there are some fantastic restaurants and bars. During the day, we enjoy going to Sandbanks and Poole Park for walks or head inland to the lovely Dorset Countryside.
What’s the most enjoyable part of your job?
I really enjoy making a difference. Working with young people and adolescents is very rewarding. I enjoy engaging with them, offering my help and support as effectively as I can. Working with adults is fulfilling and my clients have all been wonderfully loyal and they continue to express their gratitude for the work we have done together.
And most challenging part of your job/owning a business?
Being new to Poole, my challenge has been getting out into the community to let people know what I have to offer and how I can help. My greatest challenge has been conveying what I can offer and stressing the need for young peoples mental health support.
Describe Poole in three words.....
Friendly, welcoming, innovative
What has been your biggest achievement to date?
My biggest achievement was completing my Practitioner Qualifications whilst bringing up three children and working. It was worth every minute and I now regularly top up my knowledge with extra courses and diplomas.
