Poole man who bought £13.5m run down bungalow in Sandbanks has plans denied

Remember the local businessman who last year bought a bungalow that was a ‘death trap’ and full of mould in sandbanks for a whopping £13.5m?

Tom Glanfield's proposal for a two-storey, five-bedroom house has been refused by local council officers with concern of significant harm to the Sandbanks Conservation Area (SCA) and potential impacts on the protected trees on site.

Tom Glanfield bought the four bedroom property last year and had plans to demolish the bungalow after discovering the house required a lot of work. The home had been in the same family for 117 years and was stuck in the past with cork kitchen tiles, no insulation and it relied on huge amounts of oil to heat it.

Mr Glanfield has been keen to build an efficient family home that retained the beauty of the plot but also stand the test of time. Last year, he also revealed that he would need to invest up to £1million for new sea defences.
