The Coconut Tree’s Power Out Night to return in June Following Inaugural Success

Fundraising campaign to be held across nine UK locations to support Sri Lankan Special Education Centre

The Coconut Tree (TCT), the authentic Sri Lankan restaurant group, is pleased to announce the return of its fundraising event, 'Power Out Night,' across all nine locations on Thursday 8th of June, 2023.

Building upon the tremendous success of the first Power Out event held in March, where TCT raised over £1,500 for charity, the restaurant group is once again dedicating 10% of its takings from the evening to the Meth Mihira Special Education Centre. This remarkable children's facility, located in Moratuwa, Sri Lanka, provides care and education for children with special educational needs.

TCT is supporting Meth Mihira to help them through the blackouts but also to help with the day-to-day running of the charity, which is funded completely by donations.

Individuals in Sri Lanka, where the five TCT founders were born, have been experiencing power outs for as long as the TCT team can remember, affecting their everyday lives and those of their families. Power has been on and off this year and though there are currently no interruptions due to a good fuel supply, the situation is volatile and can change.

Reflecting on the significance of the event, TCT Founder Rashintha Rodrigo (known as Rodrigo) shares, "We were overwhelmed by the support and enthusiasm shown during our first Power Out Night earlier this year.  It is truly heartwarming to witness our customers come together to enjoy a memorable dining experience while contributing to such a worthy cause. We are excited to continue making a positive impact on the lives of the children at the Meth Mihira Special Education Centre."

During Power Out Night, guests will have the opportunity to indulge in the full selection of mouth-watering dishes from The Coconut Tree while enjoying the warm ambiance of a candlelit setting, as lights are dimmed, and music is played at low volume. Adding to the excitement, the much-loved TCT Hopper Stations will also make a return, allowing guests to try their hand at creating their own traditional bowl-shaped coconut milk pancakes.

To join in the cause and secure a reservation for Power Out Night at a nearby TCT restaurant, customers are encouraged to visit the TCT website here.
