Let's Talk
Lighthouse Poole
Lighthouse is a nationally important regional venue offering something different every day and plays a vital role in Poole and the South West as a space where creative work is made, rehearsed, discussed, shared and presented.
It is a place where the community presents their work and where entire schools can showcase their talent in a professional performance environment - an experience never to be forgotten in anyone's lifetime.
Opened in 1978, Lighthouse was conceived as a receiving venue with the vision of injecting cultural provision into Dorset and providing a new home for Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra (BSO). Lighthouse is the centre of excellence for live performance, film, and visual art in the South West, providing a dynamic, world-class cultural facility for Poole, Dorset, and beyond.
Lighthouse is one of the largest arts centres in the UK and the only multi-space venue in the South-West with four auditoria within its building, an open-air amphitheatre adjacent to the building, a Gallery, and four function/training rooms
- The Concert Hall presents predominantly one-night performances, mainly music or comedy, that wrap around the BSO rehearsal and performance programme, as well as commercial events such as conferences, exhibitions, and dinners.
- The Theatre presents longer runs of theatre and dance as well as one-night performances of music and comedy and spoken word.
- The Sherling Studio is used for music, theatre, and comedy with series such as Studio Jazz and Live and Unheard. It is also an ‘incubation space’ for artists and companies to develop their creation process via our Sanctuary programme.
- Lighthouse operates the only independent cinema in the local area, programmed by the Picture House Group, and the recent investment in cinema facilities in the Theatre allows them to scale up their film programme at times when the Theatre stage is not in use for live productions.
- Lighthouse curates a programme of visual art in their gallery spaces, offering both professional and community artists and schools access to exhibit.
