Exciting new retailers to join the diverse line up of independent businesses at KINGLAND

KINGLAND, the dynamic high street neighbouring The Dolphin in Poole, has announced a variety of new independent businesses joining its extensive retail offering. As the unique scheme heads into its second term since launching in April 2021, four new retailers including Jay & Co, Boiler Room Records, Titanium Flower and Brakeburn, are all due to open in early spring 2023.

Jay & Co is opening its first brick-and-mortar store in collaboration with Restored Retro on 13 March. The reclaimed, restored and reimagined furniture retailer was founded by popular television presenter, Jay Blades MBE, and will take over the old Pen Gallery unit with the adjoining wall removed for the two businesses to co-habit a larger space together.

Boiler Room Records opened its first store on Poole high street in 2020 and is due to open its second shop in KINGLAND next month, selling new vinyl and popular merchandise.

Mark Northey, owner of Boiler Room Records, said: “Boiler Room Records is really excited to be joining some of the very best independent traders that Poole has to offer from 1 March. Our second store in Poole will differ slightly from the Old Town branch by concentrating on new vinyl, merch, and Hi-Fi, both vintage and new. Throughout summer we will also put on live music events and feature instore DJ performances. We hope to offer Poole a true Indie music experience.”

Titanium Flower will offer shoppers a variety of unique, handmade jewellery when it opens in April and the store will also feature a craft space for the public to create their own jewellery designs.

Dorset-based clothing brand, Brakeburn, will also open its first store at KINGLAND in the coming weeks, stocking new season women and men’s clothing ranges in time for spring. Brakeburn has previously only been stocked online and in local boutique stores.

John Grinnell, centre manager at The Dolphin, said: “We are excited to be welcoming three new vibrant brands to KINGLAND and providing them with the opportunity to share their businesses with the people of Poole. I’m confident that 2023 is going to be a hugely successful year for the town centre and I’m looking forward to these new additions enhancing The Dolphin, KINGLAND, and the high street’s retail offering, ensuring Poole continues to be a lively and buzzing place to shop.”

Grounded Coffee, Wild Roots, Greenslade Fish, and Restored Retro all continue to trade at KINGLAND. The new line-up of retailers replace Bare Necessities, a°nd fragrance, and Paintshop Studio, which all joined KINGLAND in 2021. HUX Customs is also closing its doors after two years of trading and the unit is currently available for a new independent business to take over from the end of February.

John commented: “We’re sad to see these three shops depart KINGLAND after two years of giving so much to the local community. Between all the businesses, the teams were known for providing fantastic customer service, creative events, delicious food and drink, and above all else, engaging the community back into the high street. They will all be greatly missed from the KINGLAND family, and we wish them the best in their future endeavours.

“We have one unit in KINGLAND currently available to let and would love to hear from any independent businesses looking for a platform in Poole town centre.”

KINGLAND opened in spring 2021 and has brought together Dorset’s most innovative young entrepreneurs to create one exciting, curated retail environment in Poole town centre. The redevelopment of Kingland Crescent was the first step in Legal & General’s long-term innovation and investment plans for the area. The original ten businesses at KINGLAND benefitted from no rent or business rates to be paid for the first two years.
