Cook leads from the front as Poole seal super-heat win at Oxford
Skipper Zach Cook led from the front for Poole Pirates in a thrilling BSN Series super-heat victory at Oxford Cheetahs.
Cook totalled 13+1 from his five rides, including winning heat 15 alongside Richard Lawson to level the overall scores at 45-45 on the night at Cowley.
That set up a super-heat decider between Cook and Richard Lawson, taking on the Oxford duo of Sam Masters and Cameron Heeps.
And with second and third sealed in that finale, Pirates got their 2025 campaign off to a winning start.
Cook said: "It was a close meeting throughout and me and Rich did what we had to do in the last couple of rides, so it is all good.
“It was nice to come here and get the win. Obviously it is early days and we now need to make Friday count too.
“As for that superheat we just knew that we needed a minimum of second and third. When he [Masters] got out in front then it was just a matter of doing what we needed to do."
The sides are now set to face off at Wimborne Road on Good Friday in the reverse fixture (6pm).
