Skipper Cook positive as Pirates book place in another final

Pirates skipper Ben Cook insisted his team showed positives as they headed into the business end of their season.

The Aussie top scored for Poole with 11+1 at Scunthorpe as they comfortably booked their place in the final of the Championship Knockout Cup.

Building on a 60-29 first-leg lead, the Dorset club went on to win 50-40 at the Eddie Wright raceway with captain Cook leading the charge – despite touching the tapes in his first race.

He said: "It was a bit of a silly one in my first heat when I touched the tapes but after that it was back to normal proceedings so yes, it was good for the boys as we showed what we can do here and we can get a win here.

“We just need to do it when it really matters in the next few weeks but everything is going good at the minute.

“Like I said this is a good sign as we go into the business end of the season.

“We visualised this as a normal meeting. We didn't want to think about only going out there and getting the 30 points that we needed to get through, we wanted to win the meeting and it is good that we were able to do that.

“Not everything went to our plans but to get the result shows we can do it and we need to do it when it really matters."

Zach Cook (11) and Tom Brennan (10) also reached double figures for Poole, who are still competing for the Knockout Cup, BSN Series and SGB Championship title.

Pirates are now set to host Workington Comets in the first leg of their league play-off semi-final on Wednesday (7.30pm).
