Cutler revealed he almost quit boxing before latest triumph

Dorset fighter Lee Cutler revealed how he was close to quitting boxing before the biggest win of his career.

The man nicknamed Chaos triumphed on two of the three judges’ scorecards against previously unbeaten Stephen McKenna last month, the other scoring it a draw as the 28-year-old upset the odds at the Exhibition Centre in Liverpool.

Cutler knocked Irishman McKenna down twice in the contest to win the WBC International Silver Super Welterweight title.

But having had to wait for his second fight under coach Josh Pritchard since joining the famous McGuigan stable, Cutler revealed his struggles behind the scenes.

"There's been times where I've been so close to quitting boxing due to things on the outside." Cutler told BBC Sport.

"I broke down once while doing pads with Josh but he stuck behind me the whole time and then when a few things cleared up outside the ring I started to get that drive back.

"After the win I think I do now feel worthy of being in the gym. At the start of the year I didn't feel that I deserved that spot, being in there with them all.

"I'm just thankful to be in this position right now and hopefully there is bigger and better things to come."

Cutler could be set to headline a show in Bournemouth in the future, with BOXXER promoter Ben Shalom promising him that event if he was to beat McKenna.

The 28-year-old’s professional record now stands at 15 wins and one defeat.
