Cutler poised for McKenna match-up as he looks to elevate career

Dorset fighter Lee Cutler believes victory over Stephen McKenna in Liverpool on Saturday could propel his career to another level.

The man nicknamed ‘Chaos’ will take on the undefeated Irishman for the vacant WBC International Silver Super Welterweight title at the Exhibition Centre.

The 28-year-old joined trainer Josh Pritchard as part of the Shane McGuigan stable in 2023, having previously been with coach Kev Thorniley.

"This is the sort of fight that propels me to the next level," Cutler told BBC sport.

"It's going to be an entertaining fight, it can't not be with both of our styles.

“I hope it won't be as entertaining as his previous fight with Joe Laws (with both men down in the first round) but I'm confident at coming away with the victory.

"The British title is something that I want down the line, I've won the Southern Area and the English title and the British is something I would really like.

"But first I've got to win this WBC International title that Stevie has and that would give me a world ranking with the WBC, it is all a step in the right direction."

Former Poole ABC man Cutler’s only defeat in the pro ranks came back in 2020, after he lost at middleweight to Lancashire’s Brad Rea.

McKenna, the favourite with the bookmakers going into the bout, is unbeaten in 15 fights in total, with 14 of those victories coming by knockout.
