Poole Pirates youngster Foord waiting on wrist injury assessment
Poole Pirates racer Vinnie Foord faces an anxious wait to find out whether he requires surgery.
The youngster sustained a fractured wrist during his final ride of the National Development League Riders’ Championship.
Chasing a victory to keep alive his hopes of winning the event, Foord was involved in a nasty spill down the back straight at Wimborne Road.
He will miss Poole’s home clash against Edinburgh in the SGB Championship on Wednesday, with a further appointment set on the injury during the same day.
Promoter Danny Ford said: “Everyone who was at the meeting on Wednesday will have seen Vinnie's dreadful crash and I think we were all very relieved to see him walk away from it.
“He was reporting pain in his hand at the time but that rapidly became much worse and he took the precaution to report to A&E on his way home, where it was diagnosed that the extent of his injury was worse than first thought.
“He is booked in for a further appointment on July 3rd to determine whether or not he will require surgery or not.
“Obviously, this has ruled him out most definitely for our next meeting against Edinburgh on Wednesday and we will then see how things develop.
“Our thoughts are with Vinnie right now and I am sure I speak on behalf of all fans when wishing him a speedy recovery.
“He may have only recently joined us but I feel he has made an instant impact with the supporters. His racing attitude is first class and as we saw, before that crash, that he has the ability to be a real force in the sport.”
Pirates have however confirmed Dane Tobias Thomsen will be fit to face the Monarchs after overcoming a foot injury.
