Ford praises determined Dane Thomsen as Poole hammer Workington
Promoter Danny Ford hailed the effort of Tobias Thomsen after his impressive display for Poole Pirates against Workington Comets.
The determined Dane arrived early on the south coast to practice with his equipment ahead of his team’s 59-31 victory over the Comets at Wimborne Road.
Speaking about Thomsen after his team’s emphatic BSN Series semi-final first-leg victory, Ford said: “He’s been going through some stuff and he made a massive commitment to come in early, stay and practice. He’s also made a financial commitment with his engine as well.
“I really just want to say that man is a great guy and he’s determined to do as well as he can.“
Thomsen totalled 9+1 from reserve for Pirates, who were spearheaded by Tom Brennan and Richard Lawson (both 13+1).
Skipper Ben Cook totalled nine for the hosts with three race wins, while former Pirate Paul Starke (7+1) top scored for the visitors.
The return leg of the semi-final is set to take place at the GT Tyres Arena on Saturday, August 31st.
Next up for Pirates is a trip to take on Plymouth Gladiators in the SGB Championship on Saturday (7pm).
Poole remain on course to challenge for all three team trophies this season.
They top the Championship table and are also in the last four of the Knockout Cup with a healthy first-leg lead over Scunthorpe.
