Hagon reveals he turned down other offers before joining Poole Pirates
Talented youngster Sam Hagon revealed how he turned down other clubs to join Poole Pirates, after conversations with club owner Matt Ford.
The 19-year-old joined the new-look Pirates for 2024 as one of four other fresh faces added to the line-up, including new recruits Tobias Thomsen, Tom Brennan and Max Perry.
Beginning his Poole career in the reserve berths at number six, Waltham Abbey-born Hagon got off to a sublime start with 10+1 in his season opener against Oxford on Good Friday.

Poole recorded a resounding 61-29 victory that night, with Hagon insisting Wimborne Road was always the place he wanted to be.
He told the club’s YouTube channel: “It’s definitely good to represent Poole this year and we will see what we can do.
“I did get other offers but it was definitely Poole I wanted to be at and I knew that.
“Me and Matt actually spoke during the year a little bit as well and it was definitely the place I wanted to come to.”
Hagon comes from a family steeped in speedway history, with his grandfather Alf having represented Poole in the 60s.
Asked what his own milestones were for this season, the teenager said: “I need to score consistently. I struggled with that last year, so hopefully I can score consistently to keep going forward.
“We will see where we end up but it’s a new experience, I will take it as it comes and move forward.”
Poole’s scheduled BSN Series clash at home to Plymouth was called off due to heavy rain on Wednesday.
