Hagon happy to be back in the points with Pirates
Youngster Sam Hagon was delighted to end his points drought for Poole Pirates during Saturday’s 45-45 BSN Series semi-final second leg at Workington.
Holding a 28-point lead after the first leg at Wimborne Road earlier this month, the Dorset club eased into the final of the competition, despite a last-heat 5-1 denying them victory on the night.
Tom Brennan (10) and Ben Cook (9) were the main contributors for Poole, while Hagon ended a run of nine straight last-placed finishes in the skull and crossbones to score 3+2 from his four rides.
He said: “It was a lot better of a day for me and it was nice at last to get some points on the board.
“Hopefully things will get that little bit better for me and move in the opposite direction as it has just been going down for me lately.
“Unfortunately, I guess, that is part of learning. You go up and down, up and down and hopefully that was my massive down and now I am on the way up.”
Poole will face either the Edinburgh or Scunthorpe in the final of the BSN series with their semi-final tie still to be completed.
Meanwhile, Pirates number one Richard Lawson top scored with 11 as Poole overcame Edinburgh to secure top spot in the SGB Championship heading into the play-offs.
The side, managed by promoter Danny Ford on the night, recorded a 47-43 triumph.
Poole will head to Scunthorpe on Friday, holding a commanding 60-29 lead in the semi-final of the Knockout Cup.
