Cutler comes through pulsating battle to land English super-welterweight title

Dorset’s Lee Cutler put in a battling display to capture the vacant English super-welterweight title, with a unanimous points decision victory over Kingsley Egbunike in a barnstormer at the BIC.

The man nicknamed Chaos made the decision to part with long-time trainer Kev Thorniley back in October and join Josh Pritchard at McGuigan’s gym in London.

And having insisted he had learned a huge amount from being in the McGuigan camp full-time, the Verwood-raised puncher delivered an enthralling victory in front of his home crowd in Bournemouth

After a tight opening round, Cutler had those in attendance roaring him on when he got in close and tried to rough up Londoner Egbunike in round two – who landed some stiff jabs himself from range.

Egbunike then put his foot down in the third, landing some impressive shots to the body and head.

Both men took some testing punches but Cutler started to turn the screw, getting in close and showcasing his power over Egbunike in the corner at the end of round six.

The home fighter had to be careful, however. After coming forward, swinging wildly and missing in round eight, Cutler was picked off by a neat counter shot from his opponent.

Cutler finished round nine with another flurry, urged on by coach Pritchard in the corner. He sustained a nasty cut to the left eye in round 10, but did enough to secure the second professional title of his career.

The Dorset star ends 2024 with a professional record of 14 victories and only one defeat.
