Rain causes havoc to Poole Pirates' grand final meeting, with revised dates announced
Poole Pirates’ fixture schedule has been rocked by the wet weather this week, with revised dates now set for both legs of the SGB Championship grand final.
Pirates were due to face the Oxford Cheetahs home and away on Wednesday and Friday this week, with heavy rain causing both contests to be pushed back.
Oxford will now host the first leg of the league finale on Saturday, October 5, before the second leg at Wimborne Road on Wednesday, October 9 (both 7.30pm).
Promoter Danny Ford said: "With the extreme amount of rain causing the track to be heavily saturated and with the yellow warning still in place for more rain overnight, we have had no choice but to postpone the meeting.
“We want the grand final to be a great spectacle between two fantastic teams, and under these conditions, that would not be possible.
“We have rescheduled the meeting to Wednesday 9th October and all advanced purchased tickets will be valid for the new date.
“If, however, there is anyone who has already bought their tickets and are now unable to attend the new date then they should email info@poole-speedway.com for a refund.”
Before then, Pirates are set to visit Scunthorpe Scorpions at the Eddie Wright Raceway this Sunday (5.30pm) in the first leg of the BSN Series final.
The second leg at Wimborne Road is this coming Wednesday (October 2, 7.30pm).
Poole are still going in search of three trophies this season, with the final of the Knockout Cup against Oxford yet to be scheduled.
