Pirates boss Middleditch admits treble is 'ours to lose' in KO Cup final
Poole Pirates team boss Neil Middleditch admitted sealing an historic treble was theirs to lose, as they look to finish the job at Wimborne Road on Wednesday.
The legendary manager is going in search of his 31st trophy in the role when Pirates take on the Oxford Cheetahs in the second leg of the Championship Knockout Cup.
Holding a 24-point lead following a 57-33 win at Oxford in the first leg last Thursday, Pirates know they are within touching distance of landing all three team trophies this season.
They have already won the BSN Series and SGB Championship titles, the latter coming in the play-off final against Oxford earlier this month.
And although he will take nothing for granted against a patched-up Cheetahs line-up, Middleditch is hoping to end 2024 with another piece of silverware.
He told the club website: “It is dangerous in speedway to take anything for granted but for sure we are in a very strong position and you would have to say it is ours to lose.
“I know the lads will be keen to get it mathematically over the line and will treat this as any other meeting, with total professionalism and 100 per cent effort, but I can see it becoming a great night of celebration.”
