Pirates power to first trophy of 2024 after surging to BSN Series success
Poole Pirates have lifted their first trophy of the 2024 campaign after successfully defending the BSN Series title.
Neil Middleditch’s men sealed a 57-33 victory over Scunthorpe at Wimborne Road tonight, resulting in a resounding 110-70 aggregate win over the Scorpions across the two legs.
The triumph means Poole’s hopes of landing a flawless treble of trophies this season remain a possibility, with the SGB Championship final and Knockout Cup finale against Oxford Cheetahs still to come.
Pirates were boosted by the return of skipper Ben Cook (pictured) for the encounter against the Scorpions, the Aussie returning to the track after a nasty spill for Premiership club Belle Vue in the play-offs last month.
And he came back in perfect fashion, sealing a 12-point maximum from his four rides taken.
Richard Lawson (14+1) dialled in a paid maximum from his five outings, while Zach Cook (11+2) and Tom Brennan (10+1) also reached double figures.
Pirates are the only team in history to win the BSN Series, having win the inaugural staging of the competition in 2023.
Poole’s next test is a trip to face Oxford in the first leg of the SGB Championship play-offs on Saturday, before hosting the Cheetahs in the second leg next Wednesday, October 9 (both 7.30pm).
