Pirates produce powerful finish to record victory at Plymouth
A late rally from Poole Pirates saw them secure victory on the road at Plymouth in the SGB Championship.
Having trailed by six points after eight heats at the Coliseum, the Wimborne Road outfit roared back to seal a 49-41 win over the Gladiators.
Victory meant Neil Middleditch’s men have a six-point lead over the Oxford Cheetahs at the league summit, having ridden two more meetings.
Richard Lawson, who was deployed as a tactical substitute on the night for the visitors, top scored for Poole with 14+2 from his six rides taken.
There were also impressive displays from heat leader Tom Brennan (10) and former Plymouth rider Zach Cook (9+1), as Poole picked up three league points including the aggregate bonus.
The visitors were also aided by reserve Paul Starke (7+1), who was guesting in place of Dane Tobias Thomsen.
Pirates also gave an update on fellow reserve Vinnie Foord, revealing he had recently been in an oxygen chamber in a bid to speed up recovery from his recent shoulder injury. Ben Trigger (3+1) took his place at Plymouth.
Next up for Poole is a trip to take on Edinburgh in Championship action on Friday (7.30pm).
