Thomsen vows to 'go hard or go home' after joining Poole Pirates
Surprise selection Tobias Thomsen vowed to “go hard or go home” at Pirates, as he became the final member of their 2024 septet.
The 29-year-old revealed he was “speechless” in receiving the call from owner Matt Ford to come into the side on a four-point average.
Thomsen had two spells as part of the Birmingham Brummies side at Championship level in 2019.
Now, the determined Dane is keen to resurrect his British career in the skull and crossbones.
Speaking about joining Pirates, Thomsen said: "When Matt Ford called me and said that the Pirates wanted me for 2024 it caught me by surprise, to be honest and I must admit I was speechless at first.
“But after a good, long talk with Matt I realised we shared a lot of the same missions and personal goals, so I found out quite quickly that me and the Poole Pirates will be a good match.
“I knew quite fast that I need to do this and so, here I am, 100 per cent ready to fight and go for the gold in the upcoming season.
"For me as a rider I am 100 per cent committed in all I do, so I am not coming to the UK to be average, I am coming to be dominant.
“That is the goal. It is 'go hard or go home' for me so I look forward to seeing everyone at Poole in March and wish you all nice holidays.
“Merry Christmas and have a good new year guys."
Thomsen joins skipper Ben Cook, Richard Lawson, Tom Brennan, Zach Cook, Sam Hagon and Max Perry in completing Poole’s line-up for next season.
Lifting the lid on the club’s latest recruit, promoter Danny Ford said: "We know that Tobias is ultra-keen to make his presence felt in British speedway and we are looking for him to add to the mid-order firepower of the team.
“He joins us on a four-point average, which is the minimum figure a Danish rider can hold.
"We are aware that he failed to attain that figure with Birmingham five years ago but he is a far better rider now and we really believe that he will make an impression that will be highly appreciated by our loyal fanbase."
