Happy Feet Nursery welcome a new addition – set to open in Westbourne, Bournemouth

For many parents, finding the perfect childcare can feel like an impossible task.

It’s not just about safety and education, it’s about discovering a place that truly feels like a second home. Claire, a mother of two from Dorset and the founder of Happy Feet Nursery & Pre-School, knows this struggle all too well.

Her journey began when her own children’s nursery closed unexpectedly, leaving her facing the same challenge so many parents do: where to find a setting that ticks every box? Instead of settling for what was available, Claire turned this challenge into an opportunity. In 2010, she founded Nemo’s Nursery & Preschool, determined to create a warm, engaging space where children could thrive.

Fast forward over a decade, and Claire’s passion for early years education has grown. With Happy Feet Nursery, she’s bringing that same dedication to families in Wimborne and now Westbourne.

We interviewed Claire to find out more about her newest addition ...

Why did you choose Westbourne and the former Methodist church?

Westbourne is one of the most vibrant, family-friendly areas, known for its independent spirit, fantastic cafes, and just a short stroll from the beach. It’s a place where families naturally gravitate, and I’ve seen firsthand how strong the demand for exceptional childcare is in this community. At Nemo’s Nursery, which I’ve successfully run for the past 16 years, we are constantly at full capacity, with waiting lists growing by the day. Parents aren’t just looking for somewhere to send their children; they want a place where their little ones are truly valued, understood, and encouraged to flourish. When I found the former Methodist church, I knew it was the perfect fit. This isn’t just another nursery in a purpose-built space, it’s a building with history, character, and a magical quality that immediately makes you feel at ease. It’s the kind of place that invites imagination and wonder, and that’s exactly what I want for the children who come through our doors.

How will you incorporate the character of the Church into the nursery?

From the moment you step inside, you can feel a sense of warmth. The stunning stained-glass windows create a breathtaking atmosphere, with the sunlight dancing through the colours, filling the space with a natural glow. It’s a space that inspires curiosity and creativity, and we’ve embraced that in every part of our design. Like our Wimborne nursery, we’ve kept the space open, airy, and adaptable, allowing us to create a dynamic environment that can evolve with the children’s needs. Traditional

nurseries often feel fixed, but here, we have the freedom to transform the space, making every day a new adventure. We’ve also carefully preserved the essence of the building’s history, ensuring it retains its character while feeling fresh, modern, and most importantly, it feels like home.

Why did you set up Happy Feet Nursery?

Happy Feet was born from a deep love for children and an unshakable belief that early childhood should be magical. After years of running Nemo’s Nursery, I saw just how much the right environment can shape a child’s confidence, curiosity, and happiness. I also saw how many parents, like me, struggled to find a setting that felt personal, nurturing, and truly special. I wanted to create a place where children don’t just learn but, they feel loved, valued, and inspired every single day. Somewhere they look forward to coming, and parents feel at ease knowing their little ones are in safe, caring hands. Happy Feet is built on those values, ensuring every child’s early years are filled with warmth, adventure, and the freedom to explore the world around them.

How can families register their interest or find out more?

We are so excited to be opening our doors in Bournemouth soon, and we can’t wait to welcome new families into the Happy Feet community!
